After dinner this evening my boys told me to come look at this duck they found in our yard... they knew it wasnt on of our ducks. When I saw it I figured it was wild... my oldest boy went out & caught it so we could get a better look. We're tryin to figure out what breed (s) it is. Looks to have Mallard in it and ?
What do you think it is?
Look at that puffy head thing, lol
Looks like Mother Goose...I mean Duck....came by to visit:)
ReplyDeleteI don't know what type he is, but I think he's from Jersey with that big hair!:@)
ReplyDeleteIf there is such a thing as a crested rouen, that would be my guess. Otherwise, I would suggest it's a cross of some kind. Cute little one though!
ReplyDeleteCresteds are a Dual purpose duck. Most crested you find in the US will be white. http://www.feathersite.com/Poultry/Ducks/Crest/BRKCrestedDucks.html
ReplyDeleteYour visitor looks like a Crested crossed with a mallard. Most likely someone tossed out a crested on a pond somewhere and it mated with a mallard. OR a wild mallard visited a farm with cresteds and stayed awhile.
If it flys well then it is a more mallard. Pure Cresteds normally gain too much weight too fly much if at all.
