My guineas free range, they never give me any eggs or keets (well I've gotten 2 guinea eggs in the past 2 years, lol). They sleep in the coop & on the top of the run, they eat all the food & chase the chickens/ducks away but they wont give me any eggs... so not fair, lol. They lay their eggs in the woods or fields & I hunt for their nest sometimes but usually dont find it. I just happen to be out feedin/waterin the animals yesterday & seen they had babies... I only got to grab 5... the parents were not happy, 1 came after & flogged me.

July Bator Hatch
This hatch wasnt suppose to hatch til July 25, so they are really earlier. When I heard the 1st cheeps Wednesday mornin about freaked because I knew it was too soon, I hadnt even taken the eggs out of the egg turner, I hadnt filled the water trays like you have to on lockdown, it wasnt even time for lockdown. So I just let nature take its course, I unplugged the egg turner, I used a tube to add water to the bator through the vent pug at the top, then I prayed & guess what...... 32/42 have hatched! This is the best hatch I've had a awhile!!!

2July hatches & a double yolker...
I "THINK" these will be my last hatches of the year with broodies, if I get anymore broodies I will have to break em. I do have 42 eggs in the bator & that will be my last bator hatch of the year. Wooweee... I've hatched out alot of chicks this year, lol I've sold some, kept some & some didnt make it.
I got 12 free eggs from a BYC lady that lives in the same area, we are tradin hatchin eggs, 6 hatched... these are mutt chicks, she has mixed hens that are RIR, EE, Golden Comit or her flock roo is a EE/RIR mix and then she has two RIR roos also. They make cute lil chickies.
Little Rosie (chipmunks daughter, hatched out last summer) went broodie for the 1st time, then made a hidden nest in the neighbors field, luckly I seen where she went the night her eggs started to hatch, Kaylin went & got Rosie & her eggs we put them in a dog cage inside the bantam tractor. She had 4 eggs, 2 hatched, they are so tiny & cute.Wednesday, July 6, 2011

Horns
The horns on a boer goat act as a "cooling mechanism" that connect to the sinus cavities at the head. The vascularity of the horn contributes to the regulation of body temperature in boer goats. The circulation of blood to the horn influence the temperature of the brain. Horns are mostly used to scratch with and are not used aggressively. Goats do use them to spar with each other during play fights but this does not lead to any injury. The goats horns are not used against people. (Found this and other info. in Wikipedia)

Ellie Mae & her area/pen.
We already had this pen built... Its been home to some roosters, then ducklings, then pot belly pig in the past & now a kid boer, Ellie Mae. We got it all cleaned up & added stuff for her to climb on this mornin. We are gonna make her a better shelter, but her box will due for now. I think shes happy... well until we leave her by herself & she cries for us to come back. I'll get her a friend one of these days.
