Mabels Chicks 1 month old

I took these pictures of Mabel & her chickies out free ranging last Thursday (April 21)and I do believe the very next day I noticed momma hen leaving her chicks more and for longer periods of time. I also noticed she wasnt sleepin in the nest box with them anymore, she was back to sleepin on the roost. Shes even back to layin me eggs! I then realized it was time for them to be on their own and she new this. Mabel has turned out to be one of my best broodies/momma hens... she takes great care of her chickies when shes suppose to then gets back to being a layin hen when its time, no messin around for her! (I've had some mommas stay with their chicks for what seemed like months) So if she ever goes broody again I will gladly give her more eggs.

I think all 3 are all pullets :)

I love all the tall green grass around them.

Updates: 4 silkie eggs are due today, 2 hatch during the night. Waitin to see about the other 2. Pics/post coming soon. Pipers kittens will be 4 weeks blog on them Friday for Farm Friend Friday. I just put 42 barnyard eggs in the bator to havin sellin chickies (hatch day May 17). I've got 20 lavender orpington hatchin eggs comin in this week, they are gonna under 2 broodies, I pray they all hatch!

Kittens 3 weeks/ Farm Friend Friday

Well looks like I'm stickin with a theme for Farm Friend Friday, lol. Guess I'll just keep yall updated on Piper Kittens each week til they go to their new homes. The are 3 weeks old... walkin/playin alittle now. Its so cute to watch them but Piper does not like that they are alittle active now, she wants them to stay in their spot. The kittens have been in my 16 year old daughters room since the 1st week they were born... she is gettin very attached to them. The lil black one really loves her. When shes in her room & the kittens are up you will always find the black one right with her. She told me last night that one is her buddy & shes really gonna miss it when its gone. Its goin to a home with 2 little girls so we know it will be gettin lots of attention & love.

I've got them in alittle chicken tractor right outside by our new deck steps so I can watch them all the time & play with them :)

Remember Scarletts Hidden Duck Nest
Well acouple days after we found her nest I noticed Lu Lu was broody in her nest box in the chicken coop. So this mornin I took 7 eggs out of Scarletts nest & put them under Lu Lu... everyones happy now & we should see ducklings around May 11.

Update on my other hatches: I've got 10 eggs from Oklahoma due to hatch around April 18. Then 4 silkie eggs from Texas due to hatch around April 26 (these are under my broody bantam, the duck egg I had under her wasn't fertile). Then I've got a Kentucky friend puttin some of her silkie eggs in her bator for me and one of my cousins this Sunday, they will be due to hatch around May 8. Gonna have ducklings & chickies everywhere!!! I sold 7 hens & 10 of my 3 week old chicks from my March hatch over the weekend.

Scarlett off her nest this mornin

Goin back to her hidden nest :)

Hidden Duck Nest!!!

Heres Keyarra with 2 of our ducks & remember when I started gettin duck eggs (1st Duck Egg) on March 27 and then our 2nd Duck Egg & so far I've gotten 11 duck eggs in my chicken coop from my duck hen LuLu in her nestbox so Scarlett (duck hen above) started layin before her in her hidden nest... which we FINALLY found last night!!!

Scarlett sittin on her hidden nest under our shed.
Yesterday (April 7) was the 1st day she sat on it almost all day, so I'm guessin today makes day one? Gotta go look this up.

Nice & fuffy

She has 16 beautiful duck eggs in her hidden nest

So somewhere around May 12 we might see some ducklings?!?!?
