My lil chick/duckling tractor

I bought new chicks a few weeks ago and just hatched out Pekin ducklings (the chicks I will be keeping to start a new flock, the ducklings I will be selling).  They needed a chick/duckling tractor to spend their days out in the yard enjoying the sunshine, grass, dirt and yummy bugs. So my handyman built me a simple one yesterday, I love that I can move it around the yard by myself and the chicks/ducklings love it too

Spring 2012 Births: Feb. Chicks

42 barnyard eggs went in the bator... 38 chicks hatched. Delawares, Salmon Favorelles, Silver Polish, Buff Orpingtons, Road Island Reds, Easter Eggers, Silkies assorted bantams & alot more that I cant remember... last year I had hatched out eggs from 2 friends barnyard chickens, I got lots of hens from those hatches. None of my chicks are pure... & if they are it would really surprise me cause all my chickens run together... I've got about 39 hens, I think 8 roosters (need to sell acouple more), then the 5 young birds from last months hatch (think theres 3 girls & 2 boys in that batch) & now these chickies...

In these pics. only 33 had hatched, I've added a few more to the brooder since then & 2 chicks are still dryin in the bator...

I think they are all so sweet.

Linkin up with...

ps. Stay turned I've got so much to share in the next few days, its crazy... I cant believe how busy I already am, Spring is coming.

Mabels Chicks 1 month old

I took these pictures of Mabel & her chickies out free ranging last Thursday (April 21)and I do believe the very next day I noticed momma hen leaving her chicks more and for longer periods of time. I also noticed she wasnt sleepin in the nest box with them anymore, she was back to sleepin on the roost. Shes even back to layin me eggs! I then realized it was time for them to be on their own and she new this. Mabel has turned out to be one of my best broodies/momma hens... she takes great care of her chickies when shes suppose to then gets back to being a layin hen when its time, no messin around for her! (I've had some mommas stay with their chicks for what seemed like months) So if she ever goes broody again I will gladly give her more eggs.

I think all 3 are all pullets :)

I love all the tall green grass around them.

Updates: 4 silkie eggs are due today, 2 hatch during the night. Waitin to see about the other 2. Pics/post coming soon. Pipers kittens will be 4 weeks blog on them Friday for Farm Friend Friday. I just put 42 barnyard eggs in the bator to havin sellin chickies (hatch day May 17). I've got 20 lavender orpington hatchin eggs comin in this week, they are gonna under 2 broodies, I pray they all hatch!

Happy Easter From The Chickies...

3 March Chickies I'm Keeping

I'm thinking this one is a RIR/BO mix... pullet

I'm thinking this one is a EE/OEGB mix... pullet

And I'm thinking this one is a OEGB/ RIR-BO mix... pullet

Some of the ones being sold...
Alot of them look like they could be just BO's, then some look BO/RIR mix...

Its gonna be fun to watch them grow and see if I'm right with my guessing!
