...Happy Sunday...
I went out to collect eggs & noticed a different lookin egg. As soon as I saw it I thought duck egg? I wasnt exactly forsure since I've never seen a duck egg in person. So I posted a pic. on BYC (BackYardChickens) & and the wonderful people that posted to my thread all agreed... ITS A DUCK EGG!!! I'm so excited, I've been waitin forever & sayin everyday the past few weeks... "they'll be layin soon." I'm pretty sure this egg is from Scarlett my black/white muscovy.Update On my March chickies...
all 17 are doin great

Oh I just love your photos! Especially Mabel's chicks. Do you think you will try to hatch any ducks?
ReplyDeleteWell, I wouldn't believe everything I read on BYC, lol, a lot of the real experts have left there. Frankly it looks a bit dark to be a duck egg to me but there is that shine to it and your other eggs look kind of dull so..maybe. My duck eggs are all quite white.
ReplyDeleteSweet! Congrats (if it's a duck egg and for the healthy chicks!)
ReplyDeleteI'm sure it's a duck egg. Whoo hooo! The lady I get Muscovy eggs from are mostly a greenish color and not much bigger than a chicken egg. ;0)
ReplyDeleteyup duck egg. the shells will be very hard with thick membranes under, they are fabulous to bake with.
ReplyDeletemuscovy eggs taste like chicken eggs but fry rubbery like normal duck eggs (we found anyway...so we bake them or hard boil them)
you can tell which duck is laying by looking under her tail between her legs late afternoon.....you'll see the egg bulge
vi
Congrats on your first duck egg!! :-)
