Sunshines 1st Egg...

Sunshine is about 5 1/2 months old & gave me her 1st egg today.
I plan on hatchin out silkie eggs next spring.

* you would think with as many chickens as I got I'd be rollin in the eggs but I'm not, I lucky to get 10 eggs a day. Great days I get 12.

  1. Most chickens lay fewer eggs after that first year. That's why so many people by chicks in the spring for eggs all summer and fall and then butcher at the start of winter when there's less light and they are never going to be as productive again. Of course, my chickens get to live forever (or until the raccoons break in and eat them). Can hardly wait to see the little ones you hatch next spring!

  2. Can't wait to see the little ones, this spring! Some of my chickens are 2-3 years old and are laying great for me! We had some 6 year old leghorns that where still laying at age 6! Until, a critter got to them :( But, anyway good luck and have fun!

  3. I have been getting fewer eggs also. I am undecided on if they are hiding their nests or just laying less. I did find one hidden nest with 18 eggs, but I think that was all from one smart chicken.

  4. Gode billeder.
Dejlig at have sine egne æg, bare man ikke får alt for mange hver dag.
Vi har fået så mange æg så børnene har fået æg med hjem, når de har været på besøg.

  6. No I think you are like most small chicken farmers. I have 3 hens that my Copper Maran hatched in March and I look everyday with great expectation of when they will start laying. Love your little chick.
