Poor girls are goin through their yearly molt, right on time.
They look pitiful & it looks painful.
Actually alot of my girls are molting right now and I've had a huge drop in my egg supply... some days I'm only gettin 3, 5 maybe 9 eggs from almost 30 hens & 2 duck hens (havent seen a duck eggs in weeks, month). Hope they get back to layin soon, we need eggs! I do have 6 pullets that should start layin any day. I dont think they have started yet, I havent caught any in the nest boxes. Then my other 2 duck hens should start layin any day now too.Molting in 2010: HERE

i can only imagine how much molting takes out of them. be healthy, girls!
ReplyDeleteI always thought it strange to loose feathers when the weather turns cold. As for us, we are so tired of eggs, we don't mind them cutting back. The hens probably won't start laying again until the days get longer. If you really want them to lay, you will have to give them light.

ReplyDeleteAww I still look they look pretty. I think I must be molting too my grey hair is falling out hope it comes back red. B
