Actually alot of my girls are molting right now and I've had a huge drop in my egg supply... some days I'm only gettin 3, 5 maybe 8 eggs out of 20something hens. I've got about 9-12 pullets that should start layin soon, so that will help with the egg supply. I had to email my regular egg customers today lettin them know I dont have any eggs to sell right now... be glad when this molting thing is done!
Aw...even poor farm critters deal with the blues caused by such things as molting. I hope this is over soon. There is nothing like a tasty farm fresh egg! Happy weekend! Anne
Molting time is no fun. Lots of feathers floating around and few eggs. Mine are finished and we have eggs again, yeah! I guess they put energy resources into regrowing feathers instead of making eggs. I wonder why they have to molt anyways?

ReplyDeleteThey always look so pathethic when they go through the heavy molts. At least with a heavy molt the bird usually gets through it faster.
ReplyDeleteI need mine to get through these molts. With the holiday season coming soon the customers are going to start screaming for eggs.

They do look sad when they are moulting!
ReplyDeleteIts also sad that I only got 2 eggs yesterday!
ReplyDeleteYes it is especially when you've got customers waiting! ;)
