Chickens... Coming and Going.

Lets see... alots been going on here at Our Little Farm. I've traded, sold, hatched, processed chickens all in one week. First I traded some chickens with Susie. Then sold 2 rooster and 7 hens to an older couple that stopped in (and they bought 2 dozen eggs). Then I hatched out 3 chicks over the weekend, blog coming soon. Finally we process our extra rooster on Saturday too... ended up with 10 in freezer camp. I weighed them after I cleaned em... 3-4lbs., 3-3 lbs., 3-2 lbs., 3-2.5 lbs. and 1-2 lb. (I'm keeping one "Big Red" and then we are letting the other 3 grow and plump up)
***Warning... Pics. of processing Roosters Below.***

Katiegirl...
I admire you for being able to process your chickens/turkeys. Maybe one day I'll be able to. Right now I'm just the helper and the chicken cleaner/cooker :)

Heres our chicken count for now...
10 Roosters (7 keepin, 3 going) , 34 Hens (26 are layers, 8 are pullets) and 9 Chicks = 53

  1. I gotta tell you that I love the fact that you are wearing gold hoop earrings for this venture. HA! ;)

I also love your little log structure with the hen house sign on it. Is that the kill shed, or the hen house or what, and did you guys build it?

  2. Thank You The Goodwife, lol. Gotta wear the hoops ;)

That was our little hen house we built this past spring... I love how it turned out, I did have 12 BO hens and their rooster in there but then had to switch them back to the Chicken Shack (thats our big coop we first built) so I could put all the extra roosters in the hen house... now its empty and we are thinking about putting the ducks in that pen soooo my husband needs to make me a new sign... The Duck Hut, lol. I have an older post on this blog about the us building the hillbilly hen house
