Belle & Bleu... Duck Hens.

I have 2 new duck hens on the farm...
Meet Belle & Bleu.

The are Blue Rouens that Wilmoth Farms
gave to me because her Pekin Drake was lovin Bleu just alittle too much ;) I put them in a pen for almost 2 day for them to kinda get use to being here. Then yesterday I cleaned the nasty hm duck pond, I have cleaned it since last fall, it was nasty... but I got the job done then let the duck hens out of their pen, hoping they would stay in my yard & not go through the fence to another neighbors yard. They stayed in the barnyard, walked around, dappled in the mud & took acouple baths in the hm pond.

I was excited to see that one of the girls had laid an egg for me yesterday mornin. I noticed last night as they were walkin around the barnyard both their bottoms looked heavy soooo maybe this mornin when I go out I'll find 2 duck eggs.

  4. What pretty ducks and how fun that you are already getting eggs! I have heard that duck eggs are really, really good for baking! :)

  5. My ducks pond is one that I can dump. So much easier though I do wish they had a larger one.

  7. I have one mallard, a couple of pekins and a few magpies -- none of them are broody -- I may have to get out the incubator this year.

Great photos and I haven't yet filled up the duck pond but I know how yucky it gets. :)
