White Leghorns?
I'm think a girl and a boy. I'm also thinkin they are about 2 months old. They are the same size as my March chickies
*** My uncle brought them to me today. He got them from a friends son who bought them for his kids at Easter time, they were dyed chicks. Poor things have been livin in a cage, thats dirt or poo on their feathers. Anyways the people couldnt keep them anymore and now I have them. I'm just happy I can give then a nice home :)
Sorry to say, but almost all of the dyed easter chicks are Roosters. The hatcheries use red sexlinks and dye the boys since they are born white. Yours do look like Roos. One is just less dominant.
ReplyDeleteJust a note: Several states have made it illegal to dye chicks(animal cruelty). The dye is not cruel, but what happens to many of the no longer cute and fuzzy pets after the holidays is.

Well Crap, I dont need more roosters! lol. Thanks Matt... I agree with that law! I'm sure way to many people see them all cute and dyed, buy them, then the start to grow up and the people realize they shouldnt have bought them!
ReplyDeleteWell how nice of you. I ended up with some Easter chicks last year.
ReplyDeleteThanks Becky :)
ReplyDeleteLooks to me like one is a roo and the other a hen, but then you should be able to tell in another month or so... If they are small boned they may be Leghorns, but again you will be able to tell more as they mature.
ReplyDeleteThanks Sunny... yep just gotta play the waiting game :)
ReplyDeleteHey my bo broody #1's eggs are hatchin, be looking for new chickie post soon :)
Oh my, their wing feathers are so long!
