Well all of us Chicken People know they are NOT FREE...
1st - You have to spend whatever amount of money you want to build the coop and the run
2nd - You have to buy the chicks (or if you luck like me your uncle/aunt will get you started)
3rd - You have to have a broader, heat lamp and chickie food for months
4th - You have to actually buy chicken feed every week...
(* I spend around $22.00 a week for about 40ish chickens)
5th - You have to buy bedding for your coop and nest boxes every couple of months...
Then before you know it you'll have to buy more chicks or hatch some of your own to feed your Chickie addiction, lol and then you'll need to add on to your Chicken coop and run
Now dont get me wrong I ♥ my chickens and their eggs
I just dont understand why some people say... Oh you get free eggs when I say I have chickens cause they are far from free but they sure do taste good! I pray I never have to go back to eating store bought eggs... YUCK!
So true about us getting free eggs...they do cost to keep, but they are so worth it : )
ReplyDeleteYes they are! I love them :)
ReplyDeleteI agree the eggs are far from free, but they are soooo good and I believe they are more nutritious than the store eggs. I think it is so great you are getting all those winter eggs!
ReplyDeleteThey're far from free, but they're so worth it!! I started selling eggs hoping to pay for the feed costs. I'm *almost* there. I need to sell another dozen or two a week. And I need more hens!!!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful eggs!
ReplyDeleteI really wish we could have backyard chickens. Our city requires that they are kept 150 feet from all property lines and I doubt my backyard is even half as big as it needs to be.
Thank You Becky... Thats sad, I would hate if I couldnt have chickens, stupid rule!
ReplyDeleteThank you Callie and Katiegirl...
ReplyDeleteI sell my eggs to, it really helps when they pay for their own feed, lol. I really need more customers! Think I got about 12 dozen in the fridge, I think they are more nutritious too and I KNOW they taste way better than them nasty store eggs, lol.
